Book Review – One step short to the moon…IIT vs Love by Pratik Shelke

IIT vs LOVE

Well, the title explains it all, but there’s still more to it.

This book by Pratik Shelke is a story of Pratik Shinde, who, just like most of us would, finds himself in an emotional turmoil during the toughest phase of his life, high school!

Pratik, the main character of the book, is an IIT aspirant and the story covers his life from his school times until his admission in an engineering college.

The story is about how Pratik fights his own self more than others, to achieve a position which is not only his dream, but also his family’s, especially his uncle. The kind of atrocities he goes through at his coaching centre, and the way he comes out triumphantly out of every situation is applaud worthy! The one time when he helps his friend get out of the campus because he’s supposed to attend his father’s funeral was a very interesting part of the story.

Then comes the part where the girls are involved. Just like every other teen of his age, Pratik also gets distracted by his feelings and ends up ruining his exam score and IIT score which is as much a shame as it is practical. He finds it difficult to concentrate once he starts thinking about his future with his classmate, Sachi.

He starts assuming things which aren’t true from Sachi’s end and that’s where he goes wrong.

This book is a classic example of the life of a teen struggling to build a career as a successful IITian in India. If you’ve had the pleasure of being in an engineering coaching centre or an engineering college, you will definitely relate to the book and will surely find it interesting too!

The only thing I felt not up to the mark was the narration at some times. I found the book quite unnecessarily cheesy at some points but the. I could justify it for myself considering it from the perspective of a teen.

So all in all it was a worthy read for me.

Recommended to all IIT aspirants

Kudos to Pratik for writing a lovely novel and I’m surely looking forward to more of his books
